Montessori

Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, was born in 1870. In her medical practice, her clinical observation led her to analyze how children learn and how they build themselves from what they find in their environment. Dr. Montessori believed that education starts at birth. Studies have shown that 75% to 80% of the learning takes place before the age of six years. Therefore it is very important that pre-school children be provided with the right environment and proper materials. In a report by Carnegie Corporation (Sept.1966), the finding confirmed that the brain absorbs and retains whatever is taught in the first few years of life.

The Montessori Method

There are three important components in the Montessori Method.

The Child: Montessori emphasizes the uniqueness of the child. It is tailored to the strengths and challenges of each student. The children's innate passion for learning is encouraged by giving them opportunities in purposeful activities with the guidance of a trained adult.
The Environment: In a Montessori classroom the environment is prepared. The material is attractive and placed on low shelves. There are puzzles, colored beads, metal insets, geometric solids and various specialized rods and blocks. These materials are specially designed to teach different concepts.
The Guide: A guide is a trained adult who leads the children in the classroom. She is educated in human growth and development, in observation skills, teaching strategies and classroom management.

At Cypress Creek Children's Montessori Frisco we provide the child with the environment rich in sensory materials. Here he can pursue his love of learning with the guidance of a well trained and experienced adult who is a guide.

The Montessori Benefit

It is said that Montessori teaches a child "how to learn instead of just what to learn".

Here are some of the reasons why the Montessori Method will benefit your child:
1. Allows the child to acquire habits of initiative, concentration and self-discipline.
2. Promotes the child to work at his or her own pace.
3. Emphasizes order while the children is learning.
4. Establishes the foundation for reading, writing and math.
5. Teaches respect and dignity to the child.
6. Develops positive self-esteem through personal achievement.
